About this site....

This is my playground and a place to share things about myself, my friends, and whatever I may be interested in. I use it as a continual learning experience; I'm not a programmer, DBA, webmaster, or designer but have had to learn at least pieces of each to make this site work. It has been written in HTML, PHP 4.0 and mySQL and currently runs on a Windows NT 4.0 server. One of the great features of both PHP and mySQL is that they are cross-platform. The site was developed on Winnt 4.0 with IIS4 and I dropped the files onto the webserver running OpenBSD and Apache without any modification. For more info about the technical details look here. I have affiliated with the several sites in an effort to offset the costs of running this site. I will only affiliate with sites that I use and recommend, please visit these vendors when you can.

Technical Notes for browsers In testing this site with various browsers some problems have been found. While the site has been designed to be standards compliant and validated against the HTML 4.01 standard the following issues should be taken into account.

Updated 8/7/2002

Netscape

Mozilla 1.0 works without any noticable problems. This is a very standards compliant browser and fast.

Netscape 6.1 fixes many of the issues listed below. There is hope for Netscape users!

Netscape 4.08 will not render the drop down menu on the pictures page correctly. It does, however, show the "Go" button that the other versions of Netscape do not. It also makes the menu wider than designed on some, but not all, pages.

Netscape 4.77: has the same problems as 4.08.

Netscape 6 and other early Gecko based browsers render most pages correctly with one major exception. They will not show the "Go" button on the Pics page. They do correctly show the drop down box which previous versions would not. So now you can see the option but you can't choose them.

Opera

Opera 6.04 has no known issues at this site.

Opera 5.0 will render the site almost as well as Internet Explorer 5.5 and is a good bit faster that IE5.5.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

All versions of IE 4.0 and later work without problems on this site.

Valid HTML 4.01!
